Founded in1959 by
with the formation of Janoff & Olshan, Inc.
Mr. Olshan was also the founder of VOLT INFORMATION SCIENCES, a publicly traded technical information company in 1950. In 1967, Mr. Olshan purchased Mall Properties, Inc. (MPI) and began developing regional malls and suburban retail centers. Over several decades the company continued to actively acquire, develop, manage and lease retail, office and residential real estate assets throughout the United States. In 1986, Mort Olshan branched out from his hotel development and management partnerships to create OHMI – Olshan Hotel Management Inc., his own cohesive owner/operator hotel platform, which manages full service, resort and limited service properties carrying Marriott and Hilton flags.
In 2014, the company embraced the new name, Olshan Properties, but retained its focus on continued expansion and further diversification of its portfolio through strategic acquisitions and developments across the country. The new name is homage to the strong reputation for creative, prudent, ethical and profitable real estate investment and operations that has been built over two generations of Olshan family leadership. This name also united over 1,000 employees working across the firm’s hotel, retail, residential and office divisions under one corporate standard.
Today, Olshan Properties, a 55-year-old family-run real estate enterprise, owns and/or operates a diverse portfolio of commercial properties that encompasses 9 million square feet of retail properties, 14,000 multifamily units, 1,447 hotel rooms and three million square feet of office buildings.
The company has amassed a portfolio covering 11 states that includes properties such as the Parkchester residential complex in New York City, the Hilton Marco Island Beach Resort and Spa in Florida, The Akers Mill Square shopping center in Atlanta, and an award-winning Regional Centers portfolio. Founder and Chairman Emeritus
Morton L. Olshan is the Founder and Chairman Emeritus of Olshan Properties and its related entities. He remains one of the leaders in the Commercial Real Estate industry and has maintained a long history of creative property developments and successful operating businesses.
Mr. Olshan’s real estate career began as an accountant in the late-1950’s, when he joined the New York City real estate firm of Duff and Brown. He later founded Janoff & Olshan, Inc., as well as Volt Information Sciences (NASDQ: VOLT http://www.volt.com), a publicly traded technical information company where he served as Director and Treasurer. In 1967, he founded Mall Properties, Inc. (MPI) and began a notable career developing regional malls and suburban retail community centers. In 2000, he became a principal owner of YankeeNets LLC and continues to serve on the Board of Directors of the New York Yankees.
One of Mr. Olshan’s proudest accomplishments was the conversion of the B. Altman building on Fifth Avenue into a nonprofit education and research facility. The building now houses the New York Public Library, Oxford University Press, and the City University of New York’s Graduate Center. For this effort, Mr. Olshan and his partners received the Municipal Art Society Award.
In addition to his distinguished real estate career, Mr. Olshan has been actively involved in numerous civic and social service organizations. He is a Trustee Emeritus of the Horace Mann School, where he served on the Executive Board and was Chair of the Physical Facilities Committee. He also served as a Board member of the New York Urban Coalition, the Community Preservation Corporation, and represented the New York City Comptroller’s Office on the Board of Trustees of the Metropolitan Museum of Art. He currently serves as a member of The President’s Council of the New York Public Library.
Andrea Olshan is Chairman of Olshan Properties and its related entities. She served as Chief Executive Officer of Olshan Properties from 2012–2021.
In addition to her real estate career, Ms. Olshan is actively involved in numerous civic and social service organizations. She is a Trustee of the Horace Mann School, is a Vice Chair of the Board of Directors of 92Y, and co-founded the Harvard College Alumnae Engagement Initiative.
Ms. Olshan graduated Magna Cum Laude from Harvard and received her MBA from Columbia Business School.
Mr. Bornstein is President of Olshan Properties and oversees all of its business activities. Prior to taking on the role of President Mr. Bornstein co-ran the Capital Markets division and was head of Asset Management.
Prior to joining Olshan Properties, Mr. Bornstein was a Vice President in the Real Estate Principal Investment Area of Goldman Sachs. During his tenure at Goldman, Mr. Bornstein was involved in the acquisition of over $5.5bn of commercial and residential real estate and directly responsible for the closing of over $3bn in debt transactions.
Mr. Bornstein graduated Cum Laude from the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania with a dual concentration in Finance and Information Management and a minor in Spanish. Mr. Bornstein was a member of both the Joseph Wharton and Benjamin Franklin Scholars Programs.
Executive Managing Director
Head of Investments & Capital Markets
Mr. Odell serves as Executive Managing Director of Olshan Properties and Head of Investments and Capital Markets. Prior to assuming his current role, Mr. Odell co-ran the Capital Markets division.
Prior to joining Olshan Properties in 2010, Mr. Odell worked at Barclays Capital, Gramercy Capital Corp., and CIBC World Markets. Over his career, he has led the execution of over $8.0 billion of debt and equity investments, including acquisitions, asset repositioning, recapitalizations, mortgage and mezzanine financings, and syndications.
Mr. Odell graduated cum laude from Cornell University and received an M.B.A. from New York University’s Stern School of Business.
Vice President of Human Resources
Ms. Tischer is the Vice President of Human Resources and is responsible for the Human Resources function for all divisions of Olshan Properties.
Previously, Ms. Tischer was with Olshan Properties’ hotel division at the Hilton Columbus at Easton for seven years, overseeing the Human Resources function for all Olshan Properties hotels. Prior to this role Ms. Tischer spent eleven years in Human Resources with Hilton Worldwide.
Ms. Tischer attended Marshall University and is certified in Human Resources Management through the American Hotel & Lodging Educational Institute.
Vice President of Accounting
Lily Selwa is the Vice President of Accounting for Olshan Properties where she oversees the accounting, administration and reporting on Olshan’s portfolio of hotel, commercial and residential properties.
Prior to joining Olshan Properties, Lily was the Director of Accounting at AmTrust where she oversaw all aspects of accounting for 10 million SF of commercial office and retail space including development of mixed use real estate focusing in Manhattan, Brooklyn and Chicago. At AmTrust, she lead the implementation of MRI’s web based accounting software including review of practices, set up and training. Prior to AmTrust, Lily was at Colliers International, one of the top three real estate providers in the US. Lily started her career at Colliers in their Vancouver, Canada office and joined the New York office in 2011 as Regional Finance Director. In this role, she oversaw the restructuring and integration of the NY office to the company’s shared services platform resulting in significant savings for the company. Lily’s expertise also includes working on various real estate strategies projecting the cash and GAAP impact, identifying activities that trigger accounting transactions, analyzing financial statements, financial due diligence on acquisitions, and the cash flow impact of acquisitions and restructurings.
Ms. Selwa received a Bachelor of Accounting from the University of Calgary and is a CPA.
Vice President of Construction
Lee Karlin is the Vice-President of Construction for Olshan Properties where he oversees and manages development and construction projects for Olshan’s multiple divisions and the entire construction and development team.
Mr. Karlin has over thirty-five years’ experience managing the development and construction of more than $3.1 billion of projects in the hospitality, corporate, commercial, industrial, institutional and specialty industries. Prior to joining Olshan Properties Mr. Karlin has served in roles ranging from Project Superintendent to Project Executive, Senior Vice-President and Owners Representative for some of the region’s leading construction and real estate development firms providing oversight and support for project teams from inception until completion of multiple projects.
Mr. Karlin has a BS from the Rochester Institute of Technology and is a licensed NYC Department of Buildings Site Safety Manager.
Head of Residential
Alex Levine is the Head of Residential for Olshan Properties and is responsible for overseeing operations, leasing and the overall financial performance for Olshan Properties’ residential portfolio.
Mr. Levine has over 25 years of diversified experience throughout all real estate asset classes including residential and commercial with extensive experience within the NYC residential rental market. Prior to joining Olshan Properties, Mr. Levine served as Vice President of Investments for a family office owner/operator overseeing an eclectic portfolio consisting of hotels and residential properties. Previously, Mr. Levine has managed portfolios of mixed assets throughout his career in excess of $2 billion in value throughout the US.
Mr. Levine received a Bachelor of Science in Accounting from State University of New York at Albany.
Head of Retail
Kenneth Marshall is the Head of Retail for Olshan Properties and is responsible for overseeing the operations, leasing, development and overall financial performance of Olshan Properties’ commercial portfolio of assets.
Mr. Marshall has over 25 years of diversified involvement with retail, office and mixed use assets, including extensive experience in the development of regional shopping centers and mixed use projects. Prior to joining Olshan Properties, Mr. Marshall served as Vice President of Development for REIT WP Glimcher responsible for the execution of regional mall and mixed use redevelopment and expansion projects. Previous positions also included Executive Vice President – Commercial Assets for Colonial Properties Trust where he led the division that was responsible for the operations, leasing and development of all commercial assets for the company. During his tenure at Colonial he managed an extensive asset disposition program and was responsible for JV relationship management. From 1992 to 2005 he held various retail development positions with Urban Retail Properties Co. and The Westfield Corporation.
Mr. Marshall received a Bachelor of Science in Architectural Studies and a Masters in Architecture from the University of Illinois, and he is a registered Architect.
Regional VP of Operations- Hotel Portfolio
Karyn Marasco is the Regional Vice President of Operations – Hotel Portfolio. She began her hotel career working 19 years with Westin Hotels, in various positions throughout the United States. She then went off to Lodgian as COO where she grew the company to 140 hotels under various brands. She joined Aimco to spearhead their redevelopment initiative and create a hospitality culture. She also headed up LeMeridien in Europe and then went on to work with Highgate during their pivotal growth years. Karyn is a graduate of the University of Delaware.
